In addition to the design of your app, there are design elements to apply to your content content.
In this article we will look at the following design elements to consider for your content feed. All of these options are accessible by pressing the Design button next to any given app feed in the dashboard:
If you have a section that has one or more feeds, you will need to select a layout to determine how the content will display within the feed. To better understand what each section looks like and how it works, take a look at our Mobile Layout examples and TV Layout examples. Note that OTT examples are also displayed upon selection.
If the feed appears on both mobile and OTT apps, you will need to select a different layout for each.
To select your Feed layout, navigate to App Creator and click the Design button next to your feed.
Select your layout from the examples shown on your screen.
Here are the additional settings you will need to complete:
Upload a feed image for a feed or PDF if it appears in an image-centric layout. For all other types of content, the featured image of an article, for example, will appear.
Important Note: If the content within a section is an RSS or MRSS feed, the featured image of the article or video will be automatically displayed instead of a feed image, per below:
To set the feed image, navigate to Design, and under Layout, upload your feed images. Each subsection requires (2) versions of the image, one vertical and one horizontal. The minimum size is 300 x 300 px and must be in JPG format.
Display Content as (for article content only)
For feeds with article content, you can opt to use article extraction (use a MAZ copy of the article with built-in styling) or to display the mobile website instead. This feature is useful if your website is preferred or you are sourcing non-article content. The app example below displays audio content as their mobile website:
Display in Content View (article content only)
Set one of three displays for the area above the content, next to the back arrow as shown in the example below:
Blank: No display above the content (as shown above).
Logo: Display the app logo above the content.
Section: Display the section name above the content.
For OTT feeds, you will need to set the below design settings:
Thumbnail Orientation (OTT)
Choose the thumbnail orientation of your video stills - Landscape or Portrait. Landscape is the most common.
Customize each section of your OTT app with a background type, which will appear behind the content in the layout selected. There are (4) background options, outlined below:
- Basic Black: A completely black background. If you choose Spotlight Layout, the background must be basic black.
- Gradient: Choose a color gradient by selecting a top and bottom color.
- Image: Set an image as the background; the image must be 1920 x 1080 px, with a transparent background, and in JPG format. Set the top and bottom gradient; this will appear as a very subtle overlay to the image.
- Video: A video in the background must be fewer than 5 seconds in length and under 200 MB. Set the top and bottom gradient; this will appear as a very subtle overlay to the video.
